Killer Tan

Seeing the little white rings around Chirac’s eyes on TV yesterday reminded me of this comment I found on our blog:

"if you or your people mattered to the world our leaders wouldn't all be on vacation.
Bush = Texas AWESOME
Blair = Caribbean Even Better
Jacque = South of France so so"

Then, after spewing some pretty hateful comments about Islam, he wrapped up his diatribe with this:

“I can’t wait for the GAS to not be needed so that we can watch that part of the world wither on the vine of life”

I guess the only thing sadder than the corrupt money hungry politicians out there parading around as defenders of “freedom” and “the civilized world” are the sheepish constituents who eat up their ‘good vs. evil’ propaganda, much the same way their stated enemies do. (See “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen)
To those who believe the Lebanese should solve their differences by force, also see “any book about the history of this country and its horrific 15 year civil war.”
We have learned the hard way that violence does not work. Some of you-- at least those who have not been completely moved by propaganda-- will see a more recent lesson in today’s Iraq... or whatever's left of it.

There is no doubt that US conservatives are putting out a heavy dose of dis-information to explain how everything Israel has done in Lebanon is right and proper, while everything Hezbollah is doing is a war crime. For example below is a comment included in the July 31st issue of the most widely distributed US right-wing conservative newsletter. The newsletter is widely distributed to members of the US military for example, the same people Bush has offered to train Lebanese troops for occupying south Lebanon!

The comment clearly reflects the ascendancy of Israeli propaganda among US right-wing conservatives, who are obviously not interested in the factual reality - no matter how much Lebanon or anyone else might protest. You can see how this attitude could easily get the US involved with an invasion and occupation of Iraq, and worse. This comment was published July 31:

Only the morally obtuse—or perverse—cannot recognize the difference between a terrorist group that targets civilian population centers with anti-personnel weapons designed to maximize civilian casualties and a democracy that seeks to prevent terrorism by employing smart bombs designed to minimize civilian casualties. [UN Secretary General Kofi] Annan knows better than to suggest a moral equivalence. He is fully aware of the tactic employed by terrorists of launching their rockets from, and hiding behind, civilian shields, so as to make democracies have to kill some civilians to get at the terrorists.

Even worse than the one-sided condemnations that ignore Hezbollah and Hamas are the numerous statements that perversely suggest moral equivalence. The UN peacekeepers on the Lebanese border have turned out to be collaborators with Hezbollah, videotaping the Hezbollah kidnapping of three Israeli soldiers in 2000 and then refusing to release the video—which could have helped in the rescue—on the grounds that it might compromise their 'neutrality.' This is a real test for the UN. If it cannot—or will not—distinguish between terrorists who target civilians and a democracy that seeks to stop the terrorism while minimizing civilian casualties, it has become part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.

These idiots have no idea how much Bush LOVES terror attacks. It is widely believed the threats by Osama on video that came out right before elections is what helped get Bush re-elected.

9/11 definately kept Bush in office because people felt Kerry was too peace loving and wouldn't be aggressive enough. I would not be suprised if the terrorists have just sent Bushs approval rating up in the polls again.

notice the timing.....just before the elections, the day Germany submits a 72 hour ceasefire plan for humanitarian aid, just after Blairs minister quits over Lebanon....surprise, surprise

I don't think people are ramping up this time. One thing about Americans, they get jaded real can be a good thing (in this case) or a bad thing (writing your congressmen)

Prohibitively High Rocket-Fuel Prices Bring Mideast Crisis To Standstill
August 7, 2006 | Issue 42•32

BEIRUT, LEBANON—As the cost of rocket fuel soared to $630 per gallon Monday, Middle Easterners who depend on the non-renewable propellant to power 10-kilogram rockets have been forced to severely restrict their daily bombing routines, bringing this latest round of fighting to an unexpected halt.

"The way things are going, I won’t have any money left over for other necessities, such as anti-aircraft missiles, land mines, and machine guns," said Hezbollah guerrilla Mahmoud Hamoui, who is just one of hundreds of Islamic militants compelled to scale back their killing until rocket-fuel prices return to their pre-2006 levels.

Regions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel, once bursting with the sounds of exploding rockets and air attacks, now lay eerily silent. Even the Gaza Strip, another scene of turmoil, is enduring an unsettling calm.

Since the start of this year, the average Palestinian and Lebanese militant’s rocket-fuel consumption has surged from three gallons to 22 gallons per week—second only to Cape Canaveral, FL in propellant consumption.

Experts have warned for months that factors including Hezbollah’s insatiable demand for larger rockets, the increased dependence on gas-guzzling car bombs, and the war in the Middle East would all drive up demand for rocket fuel while putting a severe strain on its supply. However, most ignored the threat, finding it difficult to change their way of life.

"I admit I had grown accustomed to waking up every morning, driving my multiple-rocket-launcher to the launching site, and firing one unguided Katyusha rocket after another, even when it wasn’t absolutely necessary," Lebanese militia member Omar Cheaib said. "But at these prices, I can’t even afford short-range launches over the border. I don’t know what to do with myself."

Added Cheaib: "I only hope our leaders do something soon to get life back to normal."

The shortage has also resulted in long lines at military fuel dumps, frustrating citizens trying to purchase as much rocket fuel as they can before prices climb even higher. At a Hezbollah installation outside Sidon, dozens of guerrillas slowly rolled Katyusha rockets in the direction of a holding tank containing the precious propellant.

"I waited for two hours to fill up my Qassam-2 rocket yesterday, and I could only afford half a tank," said Hezbollah militant Amin Hammoud, who admitted to siphoning fuel from other rockets in his neighborhood. "Do you know how fast a Qassam-2 burns through half a tank of rocket fuel? Even if I launched it from An Naqurah, it still wouldn’t make the trip to Nahariyya."

"It’s sad, but the only thing that’s blowing up right now is prices," Hammoud added.

The increase in fuel costs has even prompted the much more powerful Israeli military to suspend wider-scale rocket attacks on public places and completely cut out orphanage bombings, relying instead on targeted precision attacks that kill only seven or eight people at a time.

Experts said that had Mideast citizens made a more conscious effort to reduce their daily bombings by the recommended 15 percent last year, they would still be able to affordably wage war today.

"A helpful list of rocket-fuel-conservation tips was issued by the Lebanese government in early June, but it was virtually ignored," Beirut Arab University environmental studies Professor Farid Issa said. "It suggested taking public transportation to the border to launch missiles, or simply gunning down Israelis with AK-47s. Instead, Hezbollah members chose to fire rockets from the convenience of their own backyards, as if rocket fuel grew on trees."

The unexpected jump in prices has many Islamic militants asking themselves for the first time whether the price they pay for rocket fuel is worth the price further paid by a handful of Zionists.

"The possibility that the world may run out of rocket fuel has left us radicals wondering if our children, or our children’s children, will enjoy the same level of militancy," said Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who feared that if the crisis continues, it could eventually spell the restoration of Middle Eastern infrastructure and prosperity, renewed relations with neighboring countries, and a "worst-case-scenario peace gridlock."

"Now the question becomes: What can we do to prevent this from ever happening?" Nasrallah said. "None of us want to live in a world in which we have to give up driving Israel into the sea, but we must face reality."

According to reports, Hezbollah is considering investing in an experimental new technology, still in its theoretical stages, that uses the clean-burning, inexpensive, yet highly combustible element hydrogen.

Yes thankyou uk for catching the terrorists. The American media can talk of nothing else today, what short attention spans, Lebanon's off the antenae. I even heard Greta van whatever, using words like, it could have been a spectacular attack! Descriptive words that chill me to the bone. It's like a drug. Being feceteous, Hey, here's a thought, I hope England can keep it up. They did quite well with drawing the I.R.A into the government and trying to disarm them, it takes TIME though. And now they have another load of terrorists to deal with..... I hope they can stop every single one, for ever, goodness me it wouldn't bare thinking about if just one or two got through. Perhaps America might bomb Manchester, maybe that would be considered o.k. Yeah why not Edinburgh as well? Glasgow's not the prettiest of places how about a few leaflets dropped on those poor buggers. As Mrs. Bush might say after all the only way is up for them, probably be happy to be refugees in south Surrey. Yeah I hope that British government is on it's toes. It's the norm now, if no one can complain at Israel seeming disproportionate I guess we can't complain at anything. To all of those who think that war is just. You see how home grown terrorists do not make a country?! And to all of those now suffering these bombs, try and keep safe, we are all thinking of you.

P.S. I have this niggling suspicion maybe someone could answer. If Lebanon had been given the money and help to have a strong well equipped army none of this would have happened presumably. Why did this never happen? And does Israel really want a strong and well equipped army on its border? It always seems to be saying (on it's leaflets for instance) we could have done this or that to you. We could have really flattened you, we haven't even started our real ground war yet. It all sounds so bullying to me. And from the fourth strongest army in the world. Do I have this niggling suspician they like being the biggest kid on the block. I want peace don't get me wrong the idea of fairly distributing the arms between two sides of a conflict appalls me but I will not be dragged into this idea that people shoot rockets from civilian towns because they are cowards, they do it because they don't own tanks and fighter jets. It's all they have. Take 20 miles say into the border of Israel and 20 miles into the border of Lebanon call it a war zone and let them thrash it out with sticks and stones, that's (not what I would like to see) but under the circumstances it maybe the fairest scenario. Let the poor young sheep soldiers follow the sad old crusty colonals into the battle and leave the rest of us out of it.

Hey here's an idea set aside an island for warmongers to play their futile games.............. no that wouldn't be the U.K.! Somewhere unpopulated.

When an act of war is not enough to defeat your enemy, then it takes an act of love. “Love your enemy” is a very powerful philosophy indeed. That is, in my opinion, the “ultimate sacrifice” for a cause. Giving up your life is not enough because your cause is loosing a powerful advocate.

Loving your enemy will empower you and weaken your adversary, because you will be in a position to be intimate close to him, to know his secrets, his strengths, his weaknesses, his fears.

Love your enemy if you want to conquer him.

A bombing plot- another fabrication of the Bush the hell could he convince his public that he has to continue his "war on terror"...(When in fact he should start with himself and his men)...The war in Lebanon...with Syria next then finally IRAN!!! Bush's dream to go skinny dipping in black gold..i guess he didnt get enough in Texas..
This whole bomb plot was also needed because the British ppl are not as gullible as the Americans...Blair's position is in danger and there has even been a call for his resignation...How could Bush and his administration boost the polls and keep Blair in his position??? If you his speech in Wisconsin...Blair has done an excellent job and if it wasnt for him...we could have seen something comparable to 9/11....
I would think that we should be hearing from "Ousama bin Laden" know to further sediment the need for this whole NEW WORLD ORDER!

Ousama is currently undergoing a few touch-ups on PhotoShop in some nice studio in Hollywood...he needs a make over u see...soon to be released ;-)

I am so infuriated at how things are going in this world..and the saddest part is if we scream, rant and's no help...they have an agenda...and follow it to the T...

From Beirut...over and out...God bless

The problem with cash for a strong Lebanese army is that it did have loads of money - channelled through Lahoud from Syria to keep the army quiet and content and in the Syrian pocket. There was so much money you could join the Lebanese army for three years, quit and then get a fat pension just to keep you under the thumb. Greatttttttttt.

U.S. Primary elections are just under way, and the loss for Lieberman was a clear sign that people are voting anti-war politicians for congress.

I'll be god damned if another terrorist act doesn't happen days into it, and may sway things back toward Bush and the Republicans...just like the Osama video directly before presidential elections..

I won't bother listing all the connections Bush has to the Bin Laden family...there are plenty, but for the longest time any such thing as a conspiracy seemed movie-like and more crazy talk from liberals...if this keeps up, I may start believing it.

To all of you who don't know who "Sam" is, ignore him. His problem is a little tiny dick. All the girls he knows are tired of hearing his trash talk so now he does it from anon land. Trouble is, the little tiny dick, though. He tries and tries but he can't make it grow. He sits around all day pulling and stroking and pleading but the damned little thing just won't get big. So he huffs and he puffs and says stupid stuff in the hope someone will notice him for something other than his little tiny dick. And we do. His little tiny brain.

Don't let the dickless, brainless idiot draw you into an argument. Watch - he'll put his little tiny dick between his furry little legs and scurry back down under his little tiny rock.

That's Sammy - and you can see why it's useless getting sucked into his toilet. Just ignore him. He'll wheeze and sputter and talk tough. But then he'll sink - once all the hot air is gone, he'll sink. Poor little tiny dicked brainless Sammy. I know - some feel sorry for him. JERUSALEM - Israel has begun an expanded ground offensive in southern Lebanon after expressing dissatisfaction over an emerging cease-fire deal, government officials said.

Shortly afterwards, a source close to the Israeli government said U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice telephoned Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to ask him if there was any room left for diplomacy.

Olmert has indicated he’d be willing to call off the offensive if Israel’s basic demands are met, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the private conversation.

Olmert and his defense minister, Amir Peretz, made the decision to expand the offensive after meeting for four hours Friday. Peretz instructed the military to launch the offensive, officials said.

Olmert’s spokesman, Asaf Shariv, told The Associated Press that the expanded incursion had already begun. An emerging cease-fire deal being worked out by the U.N. Security Council fails to meet Israel's basic requirements, such as stationing robust international combat troops in southern Lebanon once Israel withdraws, Shariv said.

“Yesterday we were very optimistic, but they (the Security Council) took the wrong turn,” Shariv said.

The government has decided to implement a Cabinet decision on Wednesday granting the army permission to carry out a massive ground offensive “to deal with the Hezbollah positions in south Lebanon, from which barrages of missiles continue to be launched against the Israeli civilian population,” said Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Iraq is indeed being threatened by the buildup of sectarian militias - Al Sadr's Mahdi army is very much like Hizb'Allah was about ten years ago. Are you suggesting Iraq should allow this Iranian-funded and armed militia to grow without opposition, as Lebanon has done with Hizb'Allah?

I would think Lebanon offers a perfect example of why Iraq needs to strengthen their legitimate security forces and suppress rival organizations at all costs. Either that or officially separate into several sovereign countries.

Or the armed hostilities with Zionists are not violence
