The Insanity of War

What Israel did today was grotesque and horrible beyond words. It's too easy to channel this anger into revenge and then translate this into increased support for Hizballah, especially for all those excited political activists out there who don't actually live in this country or care deeply about it falling into further oblivion. But if Hizballah does indeed retaliate tonight or tomorrow by shooting a missile into a civilian area--essentially committing the same kind of crimes that Israel does, albeit on a smaller scale-- then things are only going to get worse for us, all of us. Earlier today, CNN asked a Lebanese blogger about her opinion of this conflict.
Her response: "violence begets more violence"
Tonight on this bloody Sunday, I ask all those who are fighting this war with great zeal, whether at the helm of an F16, katyusha, stick or pen-- I beg you, take a breath, as hard as it may be, and ponder those four simple words.

Martin Luther King, jr. stated it best: "Returning to violence for violence only multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

We must all think of God's love and light surrounding each of us, feel this and send your thoughts to all conflicts.
Visit the web site Peace is the Way by Deepak Chopra. This is a great guide to peace, collectively conscuiously we can beat the violence on all sides. Also Sept 21 is Cease fire Peace day(See UN website I think). More than ever before we must work for peace through respect and nonviolence. We can do this! Let's begin to end the idea of war for good.

with all due respect.
if the jews really wanted to avoid their extermination, they are really going about it in the stupidest way.
with this new war, they have fuelled the hatred of arabs and muslims all across the region.
no sane person wants another holocaust.
if you really want to disarm iran, then the problem lies there.
not in lebanon!
we dont have a nuclear bomb here.
we are sick of suffering for your holocaust paranoia. (5o years on)
you are scared of the nuclear bomb landing on israel?
all you have done in the world's eyes is prove how barbaric and inhuman your government can be.
im sorry for all of us.
jews, arabs, alike.
no one is better than anyone else.
it is time the world learned that.
a jew's life isnt worth more than anyone else's.
if you believe that, than you are just as stupid as (sorry to insert his name here) hitler.
if israel is supposed to be a haven for jews, to live in peace, its goverment is going about it in the dumbest way i can imagine.
you dont create peace by killing (hundreds of) people's children and wives. you dont make peace by obliterating an entire country. you dont make peace by putting over half a million people on the street, with their homes reduced to a heap of rubble.
if israel wants the world to acknowledge its righteous existence, it must behave that way for people to believe it. (and then you wonder why hizbollah came about? you think such fanaticism comes out of nowhere?)
we want peace but so long as the people of the world are racist, ignorant, unwilling to cooperate, seeking destruction no matter the consequences, this will not happen.
wake up. . .

from those of us who do not live in lebanon and, indeed, see through a smeared glass darkly, but know the smell beneath the oppressor's bloody boot and watch your city burn as we fear the karmic come around, our hands are spelling out your names that your stories may never pass from the earth.

peace is revolution.

Powerfull words. Its so releaving to see that there can be still people like you that reckognize the logic of hate and revenge as such and call for peace, even when the Lebanese people have to suffer that much currently.

Best wishes from Europe. I hope the international community wakes up on this, the sooner the better.

julian...i am on ur side...would like to tell u that i am a lebanese citizen...and the whole point of my comment was that...this whole mess was ignited by the usa/israel to get at iran's nuclear warfare capabilities... i in no way think there will be another holocaust nor want anohter holocaust on either side...i was merely pointing out the root of this whole has nothing to do with hizbollah nor prisoners...this is a pre-planned attack in the works since january! I am crying for Lebanon just as much as any other Lebanese out there! It has to stop!

Where do you live Walton? Have you ever experienced war, or do you just play video games? How would you like it if your mother or son was being carried out on a strecher today? Are you capable of imagining that? FYI, Hezballah was never 'let in' to Lebanon, it was born in Lebanon. If you think Israel minds its own business, do us all a favor and read a book or two before you start writing. Hezbollah was created out of anger for what Israel and the United States have done to Lebanon and the Middle East, not this week, but over the last 20 years. Go online and count the number of UN resolutions that Israel stands in violation of. I think they hold the world record. Look, if Israel minded its own business and remained within its own borders, the borders it was assigned by the UN when it was created, the world would probably be a much safer place

right on, HB.

We gotta keep focusing on the shared goal of ending the pain for all of us, and not let anger get the better of us.

As an American I was wondering about the feeling there in Lebanon. If the U.S. pressures Israel to stop, is their a will to stand up to Hezbollah, if so what kind of help would you need or want from the U.S. I will gladly forward any thoughts to my congressman. Thanks for this blog, its very well done, kudo's to the author.

What's wrong with a Muslim leaving the US? It would be the last place on Earth I would want to be right now and I'm not even Muslim. A Muslim man would have to have some huge balls to stay in a country which is arrested people and keeping them detained without trial. Peace, brother.

Being an American I can tell you it is strange to constantly hear anti-American chants and "death to America" when if you have ever been here, you would know none of that is going on here about the middle east. As an average guy, there's not a whole lot I can do about what my government or others choose to do, I just go to work and pay bills...maybe I can't change anyones anger at the U.S. but take a moment please to realize the common person here can do very little..we are not government, just like people everywhere, we try to work and have time with family and friends. I am completely useless to change anything the government does.

I wish the people in the middle east would atleast try to put their guns away and let their governments have a chance.

A guy on another forum from Lebanon uses the signature which applies to your well thought says "an eye for an eye, and the whole world goes blind"...I think it's Ghandi that said it.
